Service Description

Course description Students will learn human history and how to survive and thrive in the wild using natural resources. In our four part survival course students will learn basics on how to stay alive in the woods. From ancient to modern techniques that focus on Water, Shelter, Fire and Food. Every class will include hard and soft skills where students will learn using their hands, and from nature walks and games. The need/outcomes Build confidence, learn real skills, get dirty. Only in the past century have we become so far removed from the world around us. Youth need to connect with the natural world. Learning survival skills and how to safely use natural resources through primitive skills can instill awareness, critical thinking, problem solving and confidence as they become self-reliant through the knowledge and experience they gain. They will also have a lot of fun being kids and playing in the woods with rocks and sticks. Disclaimer Working and developing outdoor skills does come with inherent risk. We do take safety seriously but don’t believe in bubble wrapping life. With instruction and supervision students will use tools such as knives and saws. They will possibly get dirty, small bruises, splinters and cuts. Classes will be in the elements and general activities include projects, light hiking, walking on uneven ground, making fire, Etc. Daily Schedule Start with a 15 minute game Plant or animal highlight- Name, Family, description, location and uses or species, sign, tracks, scat, location, behavior. Main topic -History lesson -Demo -Hands on activity Conclusion Review of class, student takeaway
